Way Too Dark In The Daytime! Review by Stephen
Select Rating It's not too bad for $20, has a nice case with an adjustable stand and can see IR without any mods. Resolution is only 480 lines which is about the same as a VHS camcorder but it's way too dark in the daytime, even in bright sunlight. It's not as sensitive as I thought it should be, the picture is too dim in the daytime and it's hard to see anything much indoors until it gets dark enough for the IR LEDs to come on and it kicks into night time mode in black & white. There are 12 LEDs on the front that come on when it gets dark enough but the beam is quite narrow. The 3.6mm lens is wide angle but the IR light only produces a spot about 3' wide at 20'. That's probably not enough to light up the outdoors but lights up a room pretty well in the dark. If someone comes up close to the camera they get too bright and the video is blown out so you can't see any details. The housing is supposed to be weather proof but I'm not sure that's true. The connectors are not weather proof. It would probably be OK underneath an overhand out of the weather but I wouldn't mount it out in the open where it could get rained on. (Posted on 4/17/13)
