Answer

If the DVR supports VGA...

A standard computer monitor with a VGA (Video Graphics Array) cable can be connected to the VGA output port on the rear of the DVR.  No other configuration is necessary.

If the DVR does not support VGA or only a TV is available...

Locate the Video Output port on the rear panel of the DVR.  If there is more than one, the port labeled 1 should be used first.

In order to connect to a TV, the TV must have RCA input jacks (typically yellow, red, and white).

1. Connect a BNC male to RCA female adapter to the Video Output port #1 on the DVR.

2. Connect a yellow (video) RCA cable from the adapter to the video input jack (yellow) on the TV.

Note:  It may be necessary to change the TV channel to an auxiliary or video input.

More Information

The model number of the DVR indicates the presence of a VGA output port.

The schema of the DVR model number is as follows:

HSSSC [V for VGA][D for DVD writer]

SSS is a three-digit series number.  C is the number of channels (where 6 = 16).  If the digits are followed by a V, then the DVR has a a VGA output port.  For example, the H9008UVD is the 9000 Professional Series DVR with 8 channels, VGA support, and a DVD writer.

The following image shows a VGA output port

The type of video input and output connectors on the DVR are BNC.  The BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) connector is a very common type of RF connector used for terminating coaxial cable.
